Island Hopping in Greece

Let me start by saying that I adore Greece. It is hands down my favourite destination. My love for this beautiful country started in the summer of 1997 when I travelled to Corfu with my best friend on our first parent free holiday. We had booked an 18-30’s holiday in Kavos which is the southernmost seaside village on the Island. We were 17 year olds in the 90’s, looking for nightlife with a beach vibe and that is exactly what we got. But nightlife aside, what stood out the most to me was the amazing food, beautiful beaches and the locals with their warm and friendly nature.
Fast forward 28 years and 24 Greek holidays later, I am still ceasing every opportunity to explore both the mainland and the islands.
I know that most globetrotters will have ‘Island Hopping in Greece’ on their bucket list, but due to most itineraries being upwards of 16 days, it’s often considered too long or too complex for a summer holiday and is then moved to the ‘When We Retire’ list!
Well it's actually possible to visit two destinations in one week and still return home feeling rested. I have enjoyed planning many shorter Island hopping trips to Greece over the years and would love to help you do the same.
Below are some of the itineraries that I have planned for myself and family, they combine two islands with a ferry transfer, sometimes flying into one island and out of another.
I also recommend combining a city or town on the mainland with one of the islands as this offers many more options and is a lovely contrast.
If you are wondering when the best time to visit would be, the shoulder seasons are perfect. It does depend on the island, but generally May to June and September to October is perfect weather. The days are sunny and warm without the searing heat that comes with the peak summer months, and the prices are typically lower this time of year.
